How to root your Droid Eris!
Would you like to root your Eris? (Leaked or OTA)
I thought so.
THIS WILL WIPE YOUR PHONE, BACK UP IMPORTANT FILES!Jpc and I (with Monty1 along for the ride) successfully rooted Jpc's V3 Eris, here's how we did it:

Android SDK (Make sure you save it under the OS, or the C:\ drive. and UnZip)->
HereHack.zip file->
HereA ROM (Save to The SDK Tools folder)->
HerePre-steps (These are steps that need to be taken before the big moment):
-1: Put phone into 'USB Debugging' mode, to do so go to Menu>Settings>Applications>Development
-2: Plug phone into computer via USB, set connection type to 'Charge Only'
-3: Make sure SD card is properly mounted.
-4: Move all files from inside the Hack.zip into the Tools folder of the SDK.
Steps (Windows):
-1: Open the Command Prompt (CMD)
-Method A: Hit Windows button+R
-1: Type CMD hit enter.
-Method B: Search for CMD in the start menu.
-2: Double click CMD from the results.
-Method C: Hit Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt
-2: Type this command into the CMD:
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\toolsThen press enter.
-3: Push your ROM by typing this command:
adb push white_widow_4.5.zip /sdcard -If you get 'Device Not Found', re-install the
Eris drivers.(part in red needs to be typed EXACTLY the way your ROM is saved and will change depending on your ROM)
This might take a little while.
-4: Type this command:
runindos.bat --Your screen will go black after a bit, then fully reboot (this is normal) don't do anything at this point. Your phone will go black once again, and boot to a screen you have probably never seen before.

-5: From this screen use the trackball to move down to 'Wipe'
--From the sub-menu select full wipe/factory reset.
-6: When the wipe in complete, hit the Vol-Down button to go back to the 'Main menu'
-7: With the track ball select 'flash zip from sdcard'
--Select your ROM from the sub-menu.
--Hit the track ball to confirm.
-8: After your ROM has loaded select: 'reboot system now'
--It will take up to 10 minutes to load the first time.
Once it's booted: you, my friend, have a new rooted Eris.Steps (MacOS):
(I haven't tried on a Mac so this is purely from XDA tutorial)
If you use Safari (Thanks jaystekan):
--Make sure that you go to Safari-preferences-general-than go to the bottom
and ensure that the "open safe files after downloading" box in UNchecked
-1: Open a terminal window in your 'tools' directory. Type this:
sh runinlinuxfromtools.shThis will take a few minutes, then follow the instructions on your screen.
-2: If you get 'adb: command not found', try this:
sh runinlinuxadb.sh-3: If you get a 'Permission denied' error, try:
chmod +x ./runinlinuxfromtools.sh
./runinlinuxfromtools.shLet us know if this isn't working for MacOS as we havn't tested it.

You have to replace the recovery.img in the tools whether you do this tutorial or the Universal for dummies... replace the image.. re-run the script and presto you got access to back-up, wipe etc. here is the link that was posted in the universal thread for the recovery image... scroll down some for the Eris.. hope this helps someone
