I am new to the forum and messing with my phone in general. I am an electrical engineer so I am not completely useless. I need some help with getting my Droid Eris back from the dead.
The reason I ended up on the forum is that my Droid Eris died during a phone call due to running out of battery. When I got to my charger I plugged it in but now it will not get passed the 3 skateboarders during boot. So I somehow I managed to corrupt a file in the operating system / boot area. The phone is almost 2 years old and I have never messed with the software load (besides factory reset through menu). I haven't even downloaded apps lately.
I have tried factory resets many times. I have removed the battery for extended time and I have let the phone try to boot for hours (in case it was doing some file system restore or something). None has worked.
The phone is not rooted but I since I have bought a new phone the Eris is now available for experimentation. My understanding is that if it was rooted I could boot from SD card and reload (a newer version of) Android. So the questions is - can I get the phone rooted without Android booting?
If I hit send and power up the screen says the following:
PB00100 XC SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.46.0000 (PB0010000)
MICROP-0111
TOUCH PANEL-MELFAS_45_17

I am pretty sure you don't need all that but I figured I would give it in case.
Thanks in advance
