Ok. The Droid and Eris came out around the time me and my mom were due for upgrades almost 2 years ago. We both ended up with the phone. I loved mine. Never had a single problem with it. My mom's first one was fine but she dropped it and the screen broke and she ended up with a new one. Ever since then she complained almost daily about how crappy the phone was and I never understood what her issue was because mine was perfect. I had that phone for...about a year and a half until one day I tried to root it and bricked it. I told Verizon it just stopped working and I was able to get a new one. When I got it though, I noticed it had been updated to the most recent version of Android compatible with the Eris (2.1). I had never updated my first phone from 2.0 or 2.0.1 I don't remember which. As soon as I got it I started experiencing a myriad of problems that have only gotten worse. It's gotten to the point that this phone is not much better than being bricked because it's so inconvenient to use. The screen freezes for minutes on end, it randomly reboots itself, the keyboard is laggy unresponsive and also tends to freeze, and the thing takes ages to dial calls.

It's getting ridiculous. What is wrong with my phone? Is it just this version of Android or can the Eris not handle 2.1? If so, is there a way to downgrade back to 2.0 or 2.0.1 without rooting?

The 2.1 upgrade has too many bugs for the poor Eris.  Your choices would be to root the phone or upgrade to a new phone.

Rooted with Gingerbread (can you hear me know Verizon)
