SO,

Despite my belief that I can normally solve a technical problem by hitting up enough forums and putting 2 and 2 together, I must say that I'm losing it somewhere.

My wife's Eris is stuck in the boot loop (3 skateboarders, red exclamation etc).  Her phone is NOT rooted.  Have tried Volume down + Send+ Power to clearstorage, nothing. Tried Volume down + Power, wind up at red exclamation , can get to android recovery <2e> and have tried a a wipe data/factory reset.  All of this has lead me nowhere.

I have a MiniSD card adapter and have tried to copy the PB00IMG file I found at Unlockr  http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/16/how-to-root-the-htc-droid-eris/ to my card, and it seemed to be working perfectly until I reached the "Main version older. Update Failed" deal.

The phone is running 1.49.0000 S-On, which I've learned is why it's not working as it should.  I'm a total noob, and a poor actor with a lovely wife who uses her Eris to sell Yarn and handmade artwear.  I'm out of warranty, no insurance, and desperate for someone to help me make it all go away.  MY wife will make you a killer hat in thanks, with horns even. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks.

Not sure I understand...you say its not rooted so were you  trying to root it?  The link to the file you are talking about is to help root your phone.

Well, the reason I'm trying the root method at this point is solely because that was the only answer I was able to come up with to maybe solve the problem.  I've noticed that others with the same problem had been advised to root in order to allow the phone to fully boot up, seeing as my wife's will not boot up regardless of the method employed.

If I don't have to root the phone to fix the issue, awesome.  If I do, no problem, I just need assistance in understanding how to go about doing that.

Try the following method, it will return the phone to the last full official version that was released by verizon. IT WILL DELETE EVERYTHING ON THE PHONE and restore it to stock just like when you first got it but it wont delete anything on the memory card. So back up everything you want then:

put the following zip file http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26082495/FlashBack21_v2.zip on your memory card and right click on the name to change it to PG05IMG (make sure you keep it as a zip file).

Power off phone completely then boot back into recovery and let it flash (it should flash and update automatically), when its done you should be fine

I put the file on the card, renamed PG05IMG, went into recovery  from volume down + power, then ended up at the android recovery 2e screen and tried to apply from sd card, no dice. Is there a step at which I'm messing up?

When I tried the unlockr method using a supplied PB00IMG file it did automatically start loading up (is that what flashing is, like I said I'm a total noob with all this), but that ened with the whole "main version is older/update failed". Should simply putting the PG05IMG renamed zip file work the same way?

It should load on its own in recovery. Make sure the file is not named with zip.zip at the end. It should look just like this-- PG50IMG.ZIP

Thats a zero and I not one

Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt...

My phone is in the same state so I figured I would try this method (also unrooted).

When I go into recovery mode I get the picture of phone with triangle and !. If I do volume up and send I get to system recovery screen (2e) and the options are to reboot, apply sdcard update, wipe data/factory reset or wipe cache partition. Where did I go wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Henrik
