My wife bought my son an Eris off ebay. The phone was barely used but had been previously owned by an adult that had a lot of inappropriate material for a young teen, so we did a restore/reset on it to clean it. 3g was working fine before the reset. Now after the reset the phone is clean but it can't get a 3g signal. My wife also says that after she reset it, she had to manually program it as it wouldn't pickup its settings using the *228 option 1 and 2 auto-programming method. Also under settings > wireless and networks > mobile network is almost always in the "turning on state". Sometimes it will go to on but seems to not stay there. Wifi works fine, can browse the web, apps, etc.

Here's the software/firmware info in settings > about phone > software information:

firmware = 2.1
baseband version = 2.42.01.04.27
Kernel version = 2.6.29.8a03cb9a
Build number = 2.37.605.4CL185970 release-keys
Software number = 2.37.605.4
Browser version = 3.1
PRI Version = 2.11_002
PRL version = 51919
ERI version = 5

My wife has the same phone and her's works just fine on 3g in the same room. The phone aspects of the phone work just fine as well, phone calls, txt, etc.

What else can we do to get 3g working again?

Anybody? Does the Eris have a log file that might contain clues as to why 3g doesn't work. Also, is there a way to sniff the traffic? Do you guys know if the PAP_Password is the same on all phones or is that specific to your account? My wife's says <Not Available> but my son's has a different value.

I might try doing a factory reset again, reboot and before you set anything up see if 3g comes back.  You may have to dial *228 again.

Thank you for the suggestion. My wife reset it again, same thing. After the reset, the phone won't successfully auto-program using the *228 process. We manually program the phone and then the phone aspects of it work, but not the data. We can then do the auto-program but nothing changes.

Hmmm, did you go to widgets and find the mobile 3g one and toggle it on and off?

Yea we got that widget too. It doesn't seem to have any affect on the problem. Thanks again!

Yes did that left it out for a few minutes. I'm starting to think it's something on Verizon's side. I was also considering trying to get a clean 2.1 droid image and reflashing the phone with that from the SD card.

Looking over what you have done so far with Ripley I'm inclined to agree that this is on Verizon's side. Have you talked with them yet?

Turns out the recovery wasn't fully working. We had to use the volume arrow up and the power key at the same time for 30 seconds and that did it. After that the phone completed the recovery and auto-programming and now works perfectly!

Thanks all for the help! Smiley

Coal, you need to provide a more detailed description as to what is going on, what you have done to your phone, etc.
