One of my ports conked out on me recently. Try rebooting both. If all else fails get a new cord. If you have a TI-84 calculator in your house the USB cord that comes with that will work in a pinch. Some old USB controllers are known to not recognize devices properly, unless you go and tell them to scan. (device manager). I found some external USB hubs cause this kind of issue, too. Finally, Cruze C3 USB thumb drives (old version) can freeze the ports (software issue). Restarting computer will solve this one. If you have Windows 7, there's a process you have to go through in order to get it to work. ADB doesn't work right away in Windows 7 I believe..
