Yep you have to call Verizon from a different phone when they are having you trouble shoot the problem.

I liked that post because it made sense that some numbers needed from Verizon were missing after the reset, especially since it was working fine before the reset. I found out that my daughter reset it by holding down the vol dwn, power and call buttons when booting up. This is not just the simple factory data reset so it must have messed something up.
Anyway, after resetting it several times and dialing the *228,1 when I was at work, it never found the network.....always said "turning on...." It had a signal but was only two bars. But all settings looked fine.
Last night at home, we tried hooking it up to my son's # instead and after resetting and doing the *228........it worked! Full signal at home. I'm wondering now if it was unable to finish it's setup/recovery and needed a stronger signal......even though at work it said the programming was successful....
