For anyone who wants to try the Droid X keyboard, here you go...

I think it works very well, the speech to text seems to be as good as vlingo and if you need, the multi tap keyboard is fully functional as well.

THIS IS FOR NON-ROOTED PHONES. I wil locate a rooted one for you guys and post it asap...

Thanks jrocker +1, I was not aware of a successful port until I saw it in your signature. I found one just before you posted this and so far I LOVE it, speech to text is awesome!

Is this the same one you uploaded?

Should work for root users as well.

Did you know that it takes more power for AMOLED screens to make white? (if I'm remembering correctly Embarrassed )

And if it's not an inconvenience, could you upload it to mega upload or 4shared?, I can't get the dl button to pop up on media fire Sad

It's nice. I like it. But when I tested out the multi-touch by holding the 'L' and finishing the word 'Let' it seemed like it was trying to figure out what I meant (wrongly).

Now they need multi-touch Swype!!

Finger-Twisters would be imminent haha

I'm not sure if this info holds true with his particular keyboard but in a lot of cases if you go to an input box, let's say like starrting a new message, before you bring up the keyboard click and hold in the input box and you will be offered Input Method choices.

Give that a try.

Coincidence? I installed this app and my Battery life dropped from 30% to 0 in like 2 hours....that would normally last me all day.
I will have to check tomorrow after a full charge

Hey Guys,

I just downloaded and installed this keyboard and can't get it to work myself. Hmmmm, what am I doing wrong. I also installed swipe again and can't get it to work either...it used to work. What have I got set wrong. I did just do the "official" 2.1 software update over the v3 leak....did that cause any problems?

Anyway, when I do a long press in the input box of my text messaging software, I get no choice of input methods, just nothing happens. Swipe used to come up as a choice but I un-installed it. I just re-installed it to see what would happen, and it doesn't come up as a choice either.....(like it used to).

Thanks for any ideas on this...I bet I have something set wrong and just don't know where to look to fix it.

BTW...I downloaded it on the computer, and then moved it to the SD card on the phone and installed it from there.

After you installed you have to go to

menu-settings-language & keyboard then put a check in the proper boxes

the droid x keyboard will show multi-touch keyboard and the swype keyboard will show up as swype

once you check these then go back to compose a message or email and long press the screen in the compose area for a menu to come up with the option to use one of the keyboards.
