So im picking up a droid eris for cheap only problem is it cant be used on Verizon so i gotta go with metro pcs.

My questions are after i have it flashed to metro pcs and its not 2.1 if i update to 2.1 will i need to have it reflashed?

Since i wouldn't be on verizons network could i still update it by going to the settings using the wifi? If not is there any place i could download it from?

Where do i go to edit the internet setting? I have done this before on a windows mobile phone but not the driod. Basically to edit the internet connection information.

Metro pcs says they have 3g but every phone i used only connected with x1 "LG dare and a few others" did not ever use 3g. So if this docent work is their a place where i can turn off the 3g so it docent get power to save battery life?

Also any apps i should dl that are a must?

Thanks.

That's a lot of questions - lets pick on them one at a time...

So im picking up a droid eris for cheap only problem is it cant be used on Verizon so i gotta go with metro pcs.

Outstanding! Welcome Aboard!

My questions are after i have it flashed to metro pcs and its not 2.1 if i update to 2.1 will i need to have it reflashed?

If you want your phone to run 2.1, Yes. There are links here that will allows you to update it. BE CAREFUL though, the links here are all based on Verizon's version of 2.1. They may make your phone INOPERABLE on Metro PCs' network!

Since i wouldn't be on verizons network could i still update it by going to the settings using the wifi? If not is there any place i could download it from?

That will depend entirely on Metro PCs customer service policies **SEE ABOVE**.

Where do i go to edit the internet setting? I have done this before on a windows mobile phone but not the driod. Basically to edit the internet connection information.

That will depend on the browser you are using. On the default browser open the browser and press the Menu button.

Metro pcs says they have 3g but every phone i used only connected with x1 "LG dare and a few others" did not ever use 3g. So if this docent work is their a place where i can turn off the 3g so it docent get power to save battery life?

You should check out the Y5 app to assist with this issue.

Also any apps i should dl that are a must?

That's a very personal question. There is a lot of good info on this site regarding this topic. Iinvite you to stop and stay awhile and check some of it out!  Smiley

Thanks

You are most welcome!

Who is Metro pcs?  I have never heard of them.

Me neither -

"MetroPCS Communications, Inc. (NYSE: PCS) formerly known as General Wireless ,Inc. Is a provider of CDMA wireless communications services in the greater Orlando, Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville, Sarasota, Daytona, Fort Myers, Atlanta, New York, Boston, Rhode Island, New Jersey, San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, new hampshire Fort Worth, Detroit, Philadelphia, Shreveport, Sacramento, San Bernardino and Riverside, Texarkana, and Waco metropolitan areas. MetroPCS is the fifth largest wireless telecommunications network in the United States, and currently serves about 7.3 million customers. The company, a Delaware corporation, is headquartered in Richardson, Texas"

Heck you guys are nearly neighbors!  Undecided  lol

**EDIT **  It is interesting to note that they offer NO HTC phone and NO Droids on their website - hmmmmm...

JRocker's VZW buddies can probably confirm this but I'd be willing to bet that some of the network and radio settings are "hard coded" into the Android OS portions that are protected on the phone (until the phone is rooted of course). This would make it difficult to tap into the providers network without an invitation (AKA stealing cell service). If this is the case it would make the "leaks" and the 2.1 OWA images we have been using on this site un-usable on non-Verizon phones.

Thanks Monty!  Was too busy with house chores to google it, so you saved me some time.

Funny they offer no service here in Houston, but based in Texas.
