When you say No Comment, isn't that a comment?

This is courtesy of a poster (Arothrock) over at droid-eris.com

****UPDATED**** 5/12/2010 @ 11:23pm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Disclaimer - Try this at your own risk. We are not liable if you brick your phone. This is a simliar process for installing updates on the Moto Droid.

NOTE: I DIDN'T LOSE ANY DATA AFTER THE UPGRADE!!

Okay, this is all coming from 1.5. (This does not seem to work for the leak (any version) - The actually OTA that goes to your phone does from what I have been told)

If it doesnt work, it will just say install aborted and then you just have to reboot and all will be like before.

First, download this OTA file:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SBPILDNH

Name the file update.zip and put it on the SD card.

DO NOT name it PB00IMG.zip as it will try to load in the next step.

Turn off the phone, hold down VOL DOWN and POWER, just like you normally would to install a leak.

It will search for the files like PB00IMG.zip, etc..etc..

Scroll down to RECOVERY and press the POWER button. The phone will reboot with an exclamation point.

Press the POWER and HOME buttons at the same time, and you should be presented with a menu. One of the options should be "Apply sdcard:update.zip". Choose that one.

It will start the installation process.

I got a little worried because it started deleting files and stayed in one spot for what seemed like 10 minutes, (probably 4 in reality), but it eventually finished.

When it's done, choose the reboot option and let it do its thing. It will take a few minutes to boot up intially.

Sweet! So basically I'd first have to rollback to v1.5 before I could apply this? Right now I'm on v2.1 Leak 2... How do I rollback to v1.5?

You cannot rollback period..no ifs ans or butts. No rollback to 1.5 if you are on the leak.

Yea, sorry no roll backs. I think root has a way but please dont quote me.
Also this may work on leak version 2.

If it doesnt work, you wont loose anything just reboot the phone the normal way.

When the update gets to "install Update" on the phone, if it cant do it it will abort then just reboot..

So it seems from reading the post from Android Forums that you actually have to hit the home button and power for this to get past the exclamation mark. Thread: http://droid-eris.com/htc-droid-eris/78440-installing-leaked-ota-2-1-file.html

Hoping this will save some users a bit of frustration...

are you on 1.5 or leak?   it does not work with the leak and you will have to wait for the actual ota

Try hitting volume up, holding it in, then hit the power/end button.

Is this the actual FINAL RELEASE from Verizon that is going out, or just another version of a LEAK?

After the update is done, does it wipe everything back to FACTORY DEFAULTS and you need to re-install everything again?
