My husband and I got Eris phones this past Sunday. The sales guy said to wait awhile before upgrading because there seemed to be several people having issues when they did the download.

My thoughts on the matter are that IF I'm going to have issues, I'd rather deal with them now while I have relatively few apps and other customizations.

Also, am I to understand that the upgrade seems to be going better for those who download then wait a bit before restarting their phone? And is that basically all I need to do (download upgrade, do nothing for a couple of hours, turn phone off, then back on)?

From what I understand, most of those bugs can be fixed with a Factory Reset... Though the Over The Air update that verizon sent out did not do this (it allowed you to keep all of your contacts, and apps installed, etc...)
I've heard quite a few people that did the following and had great success:

1.Download and install the update
2.Reboot Phone
3.Factory Reset

Its sort of a pain but it supposedly works much better than the standard "just update" method.

I'm not sure what waiting will accomplish for you other that to allow sites like this to come up with more fixes for the things that may go wrong. Eddie's advice is pretty right on here and I would add that you give the 2.1 OTA Tips and Tricks thread a read as it contains the tried and true fixes for issues that have been experienced here.

Ultimately your decision should match your comfort level. Wink

The 3 things Eddie mentioned are the 3 things Verizon should have had everyone getting the OTA do and this would have eliminated most of the problems.  I am not a big factory reset guy, but in this instance I agree it is much needed, in the order stated above.
