If they were sync'd with google they will be back over a few hours time period. People have lost them but they do come back.

If you saved them all as phone only contacts, you will have to redo them.

If you need info on what all this means, please search the forums with our search feature for google contacts.

I read on some obscure post that after the upgrade it can take up to 2 hours to re-sync your Google contacts.

Being able to change phone contacts to Google contacts would have been a very nice feature.

I do know that on leaked versions I installed it was about 10 to 15 minutes to re-sync.

I also upgraded from leak 2 to leak 3 and my contacts sync'd after about 20 minutes or so (didn't time it). Google is awesome.

I received the OTA update last night and did not loose my contacts. I am using the HTC sync to Outlook 2003 on my PC. I did a sync a few months ago and my contects where still there before and after the OTA update. I did a new HTC sync after the update and it completed ok.

One other issue is my bluetooth devices were missing after the OTA update. When I turned on bluetooth on the phone and the device in my car, the phone had a popup screen to enter the 0000 code for the device. The device connected and that was all that was needed to be done.

Sel0912 - What type of contacts were they (Google, Facebook, Outlook, Phone)? Some types are backed up automatically and return during the auto-sync process.

Frisco - You can! In the People App go to Menu>Import/Export and export the .vcf file to your SDcard. You should be able to import that file into Google contacts (might be best if you transfered the file to your PC and perform the operation on the computer). When you export the file from the phone (BTW you can do this one at a time or all at once) the phone automatically "zips" the file depending on the process (one at a time zips). You will have to unzip it before you can import the contact in G-mail. Kinda complex but not bad once you get the hang of it.

That why people need to save their contacts to Google and not phone!!!  Please everyone who may not know,  make a mental note of this, as it so much easier to get them back automatically.  Just an FYI to make life easier.

Thanks Ripley, I just done moving all my contacts over (after reading this) to gmail and then edited and re-synced.  Took some time but I'm feeling safer now.   I'd hate to have to input all my contacts again.

Sorry, I'm a little dumb when it comes to the whole syncing thing. How do you save it to google and not the phone? I downloaded the new update and it deleted all my contacts because I stopped using the contact syncing tool. The reason I stopped using it was because it was taking all my contacts from google and replacing them with my phone contacts so I'd lose all my numbers. I'm obviously not very good at this...

I may not have the best way to manage contacts but when I set up my phone I found it pretty effective. I synced the Phone with Google for a couple of days and then went into my Gmail Acoount on my PC and set all my contacts up the way I wanted them (it's simply easier to type on the computer). Then I synced the phone again with the intention that if it screwed up my phone contacts that I would blow them all away if the process screwed them up (it didn't) and repopulate them from G-mail. From there I now manage them from my phone (as Google Contacts) and sync them as a backup. They are bset set as Google contacts because you can export them and manage them from your PC as well as the phone - good security! Shocked

btw you can copy your "Phone" contacts to G-mail. See my post above.

FYI--I thought I lost some of my contacts--when I looked closer, I realized that some had been "merged" together.  For instance, my husband and son were both showing up together.  Apparently they were "linked" and I had to go in and manually "unlink" them in order for them to be listed as seperate contacts.
