I bought the Eris with the 1.5...a short time later I got the leaked 2.1.  With the leaked 2.1 the call problems started.  I would make a call and the screen would show that I was on a call with the little droid man and the counter but I couldn't hear a sound on my end.  So last week I upgraded to the leaked 2.1 V3 hoping to fix this (along with some other issues) but I am still getting the same thing.  Not on every call but just randomly on some calls and not on others...what gives?  I am ready to throw the phone in the river...what is causing this and how can I fix it?

From what we know, some eris phones may have a hardware issue with the sound but it seems that the 2.1 firmware exposes this when the 1.5 firmware doesnt.

The only fixes I have seen are to either try re flashing the 2.1 v3 firmware or have verizon exchange the phone due to hardware issue.

Sorry couldn't be more help.

Hopefully someone else has a better fix...

Thanks for the fast reply.  I will try and redo the V3 and see if that helps.

Just a casual observation but in looking over this issue it seems like the vast majority of folks who have run into this "random sound issue" installed the leaked 2.1 Version 1 first. If it manifests itself with that version it doesn't appear to be resolved in subsequent versions (ie. 2 or 3). Someone noted this on one of the other Eris forums as well.

I have only had this happen once on V3 and rebooted.  V2 was horrible for silent calls.  One thing I have noticed when it happened on V3, that one time, has something to do with that dang vibration it makes when making a call(I am still trying to figure out how to turn it off).  All in all love v3 so much better.

I ran version 2 for a short time and have been running version 3 since it was discovered and have never had the "silent call" issue.

By the way if you figger out that "vibrate on calling" bug let met know what you did eh?  How irritating! Embarrassed

I sure will.  The vibrate on call is so annoying to me.  I may be off base but noticed it somehow would trigger the silent calling on v2.  Maybe its just me.

Ok.  I erased the update I had on my SD card (2.1 V3) and re-downloaded it and put it on my phone and now it is worse than ever.  My email will not let me do anything but manual.  If I set it to refresh it self on any time frame, it automaticallu reverts back to manual as soon as I leave that section of the "settings".  My weather NEVER refreshes it self.  If I go to weather I have to manually refresh or it reads "No Weather Data Available" and my apps may or may not work depending on whatever mood they seem to be in at the time.  Most of the time it is a "force close".  This Eris is quickly becoming the worst phone I have ever had and believe me I have had some carp!  What is going on with my phone???
