I think that it looks good, as do many of the custom ROMs. Of course I have not tested it because of failure to root.

I haven't tried anything yet, but I'm sure I had waited for a reason.  Still having the stock Eris will allow me (if desired) to root the phone and try these different ROMs when they come out.

I'm still holding off for now, waiting for Big Red to maybe show some signs of life towards the Eris.  But, if all else fails, I'll go ahead and Root and play with different ROMs when I see any new updates won't be good.

Here's to future findings!

Looks like a nice ROM. for a starter ROM..

I have to be honest, right now, with the way the Leaked 2.1 v2 is running on my phone, I don't really have much of a crave for Root anymore!  I think I will be ok waiting a little while until the devs come up with the NEO of all ROMS lol.

Aww, come on.. one of ya'll could go ahead and do it..

Why do you say it's a starter ROM, Eddie?

I am thinking on it as it does seem to get rid of some of the things I don't want like facebook, etc. I keep peeking in on it hoping he comes through with the bug fixes.

This might be a dumb question but the "root" directory is just where all your folders are right? I put this .zip in there but when I reboot while holding Volume Up I get a triangle with a (!) Mark. Anyone know why?

vwfury, welcome to the forum!
OK, so...
Root directory is different then what we are talking about by 'rooting' the phone.  You can find a lot of information about the new leaked 2.1 and how to install it here:
http://www.droid-eris.com/updates-and-cupcakes/new-version-of-android-2-1-leaked/

I haven't done the upgrade yet, although I believe the basics go as follows:
- place file on your SD card (not in any folder, just on the card)
- turn phone off
- hold volume down, press power button
- follow instructions, use track ball when asked to make selection
- allow plenty of time for it to boot up

Now the real instructions are detailed in that thread, and linked to another thread as well.
My suggestion is to read plenty of posts and go carefully.

Cheers!

Whenever I try to take a look at the zip file it says that it is invalid. I have downloaded from numerous sources, what is going on?

***These instructions are provided for information only and they may be incomplete or unclear, please read and ask questions before proceeding***

Instructions to break the Verizon law and update your phone to Android 2.1:

1. Download PB00IMG.zip form the link below.

2. Move the PB00IMG.zip to your  SD card. DO NOT UNZIP the file

3. Back up all important data

4. Turn off your phone

5. Power on your phone  by pressing the volume down key and the power key at the same time.

6. Your phone will now begin to load the update. From this point on the phone does all of the work, just follow the directions.

7. Press the trackball when prompted to restart or start update. Any time action is required you need to use the trackball to select, other buttons do nothing at this point

The first boot will hang at the start up screen for maybe up to a minute, hang in their. Once it boots you with be prompted to set up the device as if it were new, please do so. If you have any serious problems (most people don't) wait a little while and do the complete boot sequence again. Otherwise post your questions here and one the fine folks of this site will try to help.

Step 8. Have fun. There is a lot to learn, even if you knew it all before you updated.

Edit: Sorry if that sounded jerky, wasn't meant to be.

You can not load custom ROMs unless you have rooted your device.

I believe the !triangle is an expected part of the ROOTing process.  Please continue to read through the threads on root in XDA and see if you can get it to work.
I'm root-ing for ya!  Haha!
