We probably need some nice china man to leak it out to us, after HTC builds up a rom for it, since we don't have root it's gotta be signed by HTC and/or verizon to flash it on.

Or cross your fingers and hope we get root soon. I was in the XDA IRC when they dropped the code for it, they were...excited...to say the lease

sounds like it has a lot of great new features, esp the mobile hot spot.  Hope that something, even a leaked version, comes out soon.

I'm definitely one of those excited ones. A XDA forum developer named punk.kaos has been in the kitchen cooking up a Froyo rom for the community. His work has produced a running 2.2 flashable rom for rooters already, and he is almost finished up with the 1st major revision since the code came out. Follow along with his progress at:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685594

It's still buggy, and wouldn't be recommended as your main rom yet, but he is tracking the problems down now. There are well over 40 pages, but the really interesting stuff didn't happen till around page 30 when the actual code came out as opposed to his early attempts at getting a N1 port up and running. Froyo V10 coming soon!

Since HTC released the code for froyo, I am hoping that Eris will be able to get it.

You do not need a leak to get Android 2.2...I called Htc and the guy looked up and asked his people and they said that the Droid Eris will get 2.2..And i said are you 100% sure because i might want to return my phone and get one with 2.2 on it..And he said Yes in our system it says it will be released soon..

@adam I'm 99% sure you will. If not, you can just download and flash the RUU, then get the OTA for froyo

If we are going to hold our collective breaths for an official OTA 2.2 then I fear we will have a lot of people pass out. lol  As confusing and contradicting Verizon and HTC were with 2.1 information, especially with when and who (they changed their minds on whether or not leakers were getting OTA a few times and we all know about the delays...) was getting it, that I doubt a random Verizon tech would be considered a reliable source. Luckily, I believe, a root method for leakers has popped up recently, and the next step towards making Froyo work well on the Eris has happened as well. Still missing a couple of key features like camera and wifi, but it is stable and much quicker than most 2.1 roms I have used. Waiting on the next round of improvements and it will be my daily rom for sure.

Yeah hopefully it won't be like the 2.1 upgrade (speaking of Cooliris gallery and friendstream absence) and have the 2.2 release without the JIT compiler, or wireless tethering...  Tongue Although I seriously doubt that we'll ever see the tethering on an official version, unless we also see tiered pricing on big red...
