My two sons do it on a daily basis as they have a laptop repair shop.

I will be glad to help.

A few thinks to keep in mind:
- Do not look for a replacement using your laptop brand and model. This way you will get them more expensive and not necessarily a perfect match. The best way to get the right replacement is to look for the part number, usually on a barcode label in the back of the lcd.
- The screen frame looks fragile, but it is pretty flexible. To open just remove the little rubber covers and unscrew the frame.
- Never open the frame with the laptop powered on. There is an inverter board that can give you a nice 600v shock.

Now, some questions:
- What kind of laptop? Brand and model (model at the bottom of the laptop, not the one on the bezel)
- Is the screen broken, wrong image or just dark?

Did you get the replacement? If not, remember to get the part number from the sticker behind the lcd. HP uses different LCDs on diff batchs of the same model. This way you will be sure to get the correct cable connection.

We normally get our screens from an ebay store (screenaid). Good price and warranty.

Once you get the replacement check the part numbers. If they match, first a test is in order.
Connect the pink-white cables for the backlight and the video cable (careful here as if you do it too hard it may ruin the new screen).
Turn your laptop on. You should get a nice image of the HP logo.
Turn it off.
Very carefully put the lcd on the hinge support with the eight small screws. Attach the plastic cover, install the screws and the rubber covers.
Your new screen will be in place.

Your decision. For $95 I would go with a new screen.
