Thinking about switching from blackberry storm2 to Eris but reading reviews makes me unsure, what operating system is current on the Eris?

That is very much a matter of opinion. I personally think it is as stable as 1.5 was but that is based on my personal experience. I think they both ran equally well with 2.1 having better features. As I said in a post a few days ago, in reading the posts here keep in mind that many folks coming here have issues/problems and are looking for answers. If you consider the number of phones that Verizon was allowing for (one number I heard was 10000/day) to be updated for around 40 days that works out to a coupla hundred thousand units. Compare to the number of folks that reported problems here that works out to a pretty small %. I think I can safely say that most of those were solved pretty quicky.

I'd call that stable  Smiley

Came from a storm 2 to the Eris and could not be happier.  Reasons were the android OS, feel of phone and big reason was price(always looking for a bargain).  My Eris runs perfect on 2.1 and could not be happier.

Now if you want the latest/greatest and your budget can afford it you might want to compare some phones at your local Verizon store.
