Hi all!!!  My name is Patti, I just inherited my sister's Eris.  I know NOTHING about these crazy things at all.  I am not even sure it will work out, here is the situation and you guys can maybe give your expert opinions.

1-I need to get it unlocked, it is a verizon phone but I use Straight Talk.  Here in my neck of the woods it uses Verizon's network.  I have heard rumor of people successfully doing this but have never actually seen it with my own eyes.  I really need to be able to use the internet and ST's phones are ALL carp.  Does anyone know if I would have full function of this phone or any problems I may need to consider?

2-If I can use this phone with straight talk, then I would want to get all the updates.  Would there be any reason why I would not be able to update my phone?

I have A BUNCH of questions and I am looking forward to learning more about all this Smiley
Thanks in advance for the help!!

HI Patti,

Unfortunately I'm not sure if it would work on straight but your best bet is to join up over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=551 and have the developers try to help you.

As for updates, the eris is a discontinued model for almost a year now and there really are no more updates for it. When you go over to xda and they explain how to set it up for straight(if it can) they will have u install a rom (updated os) that has all the previous and final updates in it.

Sorry couldn't be more help, if anyone here can help you, im sure they will chime in...

Thanks

So I have learned a ton from you guys and the folks over on hofo.  Me and my sweet little Eris are going to Pageplus, the wave of the prepaid future!!!  Straight Talk will have to kick rocks.  I am so excited, I cant wait to play with this phone.  I will definitley be back here more often to learn how to do all the cool stuff with it.

I do have a question-PP has a plan that offers 100 mg of data.  I know my ignorance is showing but I have no idea what that number really means.  Does that seem like a reasonable amount?  Does the Eris have WiFi cuz is seems like if it can use that, then would it leave my data alone?

Yes it has wifi and works well.

100mb is not that much, read email, send status updates to facebook but downloading, streaming video or uploading pics will kill that 100mb real quick
