I just decided that the white trackball wasn't matching the amazing Black/Blue NonSenSikAl 9.5, so a new blue trackball was in order.

Just followed the directions on the xda-developers site and now I have a very cool blue trackball that works better than the original one.

***** WARNING *****
BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO DO THIS -- REMEMBER -- THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY

If you are not good with small things and/or electronics, do not try this.  Wink

Here's the link to the instructions.

Here's a picture of the trackball illuminated

Very nice work. Where did you get the new trackball from?

It does fix the problem with the trackball, as the whole unit is new (including the small rollers).
In fact, it rolls smoother and is more sensitive than the original unit.

The cost was less than $3 and the shipping is free..

Here's the link to where I purchased it

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180439721872&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_2465wt_1202

You can get it really easy, as it is the same trackball used on the Blackberry Curve.

Replacing it was easy, following the instructions and having the correct tool.
The tool needed is a small Torx screwdriver (T6 I think). I have had this for a long time.

Similar tool you can get for just a few bucks on this link

(I did not get mine here).

Again, you may be putting less than $10 and getting a new trackball

Sorry. I just posted information for blue trackballs.

Trackballs on any color can be purchased for very low prices. Again, just search for Blackberry Curve or 8300 replacement. It seems like the trackball problem is more common than what we thought.

Question: Could you replace the trackball with an optical joystick?

That would solve everything. lol

No, unless you change the whole board and the controller. In other words, redesign the phone.

I noticed the replacement ball scrolls better than the original one, so this is could be a nice solution.
