I have been trying to do this with no luck, please read all then respond.

I have read somewhere that I can teather my phone and connect to the internet.  I have no idea how to do that.
I have easy teather lite on my phone, but don't know how to use it.
Please help  :

Haha, Then you cannot wireless tether. You can tether by USB with PDA net.

Go through this section: http://www.droid-eris.com/all-things-root/
Once rooted you can wireless tether free and MUCH more.

I have been trying for sometime, today.  So far not good.
I downloaded Eris rooter and follow the instruction and it keeps asking to reboot.  I have done this several times and also downloaded quickboot.  I get and error that says no root access.
Please advise.

I am being asked to please reboot.  I have done this several times and have finding out it is not rooted.  Not sure what I am doing wrong.

The main thing I would like to do is to be able to use my phone as a modem.
If I could do both that would be great.
I have been trying to root and must be doing something wrong.

Well perhaps you should spend time reading up more on rooting.

Now to use your phone as a modem get PDANet from the market, (I believe) it lets you tether via USB. Beaning you can use it as a modem but you need the USB cable plugged in. I don't use it so I'm not sure.

So my Eris is rooted and I have the wireless tether app. Blah blah blah it may be against my carriers TOS (Verizon) however, has anyone gotten caught? What happens, a massive extra charge? I'm curious.

Verizon doesnt do anything. They wont add charges to you. A verizon rep even told me about pdanet right after i got my eris. My usage was about 2 gigs before and now i average 5 to 7 and even hit 10 gigs at one point
