I did this once myself. I believe that you need to go into Settings>Applications>>Manage Applications and under "Home" clear defaults. Then get out to the main screen and click the Home button (the little house) it should ask you what you want to use as default to open that app. Click the little "always use" check box and select HTC Sense.

*****WARNING I have not tested this! You should get a second opinion before you try this ESPECIALLY if you have changed operating systems from the one your phone came with! Failure to do so may result in having to reload the OS (that's how I fixed mine when I screwed up my home page)!! Please check my opinion before proceeding - you have been warned**********

Hmmmm. My answer on this is based on my experience of setting up the leaked OS's (versions 2 and 3) on my phone. In each case the first time I hit the "Home" button it asked me "what program I wanted to perform the action with" Home or HTC Sense. The first time I made the mistake of saying "Home" (oops) and got stuck where you are. Since it's not defaulted to Home the trick is to figure out how to get it to ask the question again (so you can give it the right answer). Maybe some else here has gotten to this point before and knows an answer.
In my case, I fooled with it for about 20 minutes and when I couldn't figure it out I just re-installed the leaked OS again and started over, lesson learned.
If you are still running the Original 1.5 OS that came with the phone I recommend you contact Verizon. Hope you find an answer.

What you want to do is go back into settings and clear defaults for "htc sense ui" not home if u want the 3 screen version. U will then get an option to choose when you hit the homekey
