I setup my Eris to sync email with Exchange.  Per our companies policy, a screen lock password is required on the phone.

I cannot use the pattern drawing option.  It has to be a simple password.  I successfully set the password.

Problem:  When I go to unlock the screen, the prompt comes up on the screen waiting for me to enter the password.  However, the keyboard does not automatically launch.  I have to click in the text box and then enter my password.

Is there a fix for this?  Some setting to make the keyboard pop up automatically?

Also, with most other phones, when Exchange requires a simple password (i.e. alphanumeric), the lock screens pop up with the number keypad.  Is this an option on this phone?

This isn't a huge deal, but certainly a pain in the butt.  The screen lock application is lacking serious functionality.

Thanks!

With the lock screen how is your phone going to know you want it unlocked. Think when you go to the net in your phone is the keypad right there no you have to hit the area  you want to type and then a sec or two the keypad pops up. Sorry your question is kinda common sense

Keyboard behavior is context sensitive.

If the text area is not selected, keyboard wont come up.

Regarding the selection of numeric pad or regular keyboard, the password area for unlocking is not receiving from outlook any special property to make the phone interface understand it should be a keypad.

On Windows phones, and BBs using BEM, this is a special setup. Android is open and the lock must work for all messaging platforms.

Maybe this will improve on the Exchange policy support in the future. Remember MS is not really open on how this should work.

Are you kidding???  The phone knows I am trying to unlock it.  I slid my finger down on the locked graphic to unlock it.

iPhone does it right.  Even Windows Mobile does it right.  See pictures below.  These are the screens you see when you unlock a WM device or an iPhone.

To the last poster, this isn't an issue with Exchange policy.  This is purely a software issue.  All Exchange demands is that there be a password based lock policy.  It doesn't specify how to implement it.  Again, Windows Mobile gets it right, but we would expect that, it's Microsoft.  But even the iPhone get it right.

There has to be a way to replicate what iPhone and WM have for unlock screens.

Thanks!!!

LOL.  I can believe HTC is the problem.  They have a knack for screwing up good things.

Question:  You are running a custom ROM.  What is your experience like?  Are you using the patterns or have you ever connected to an Exchange server?

I'm considering running kaosfryo and was wondering what the experience on a ROM would be like.

Thanks.

I don't use exchange but my rom has a quick unlock feature that probably helps a lot for people who use password unlock.
