I am thinking about giving my son my Eris to play with (he is only 11y). It would not be activated. The phone is rooted and has Macrom mr8 on it. Is it best just to delete the apps I don't want him to have access to, or can I do a factory reset and have him sign in with his gmail account? Are there any good apps we could use to communicate, like sms or instant message, without activation? We have tikl (push to talk) and it does work, but the Eris and my new phone both show up on my husbands phone under my name, no way tell the difference.

Best bet is a factory reset and use sons gmail.

Almost any messaging app would work on wifi i think but that's about it.

You can also try instant messaging apps too...

I let my girl use my Eris to play games, I wiped it out, reloaded it with CM7 and used my email address to access the market for the apps I wanted for it. Works fine with wifi.
