I have a Droid Eris.
In your opinion, what is the best app for removing old SMS texts, etc? I was a dum-dum and never deleted any texts on my phone. I received the low storage icon and started deleting them manually. (thousands = what a chore!). I then downloaded the SMS cleaner from the market, but it continued to lock up on me. I just uninstalled the app and went back to deleting the texts manually...It's gonna take me foreverrrrrrr......

I did go back to old posts on here from other users with the same problem, but no one really recommended a good app.
Just FYI: I have 7.23GB of available SD card memory out of 7.39GB.
I only have 18.48MB of internal phone storage and I know the multiple texts is my storage problemo.
What are your thoughts on a good, quick "remover?"

Thanks.  Huh?

If your phone is rooted there is some help for you if its not, there is not much to do. As for the text message app locking up, its probably not locking up. If you have that many text still in memory it will take a good amount of time to delete them here is what i suggest:

1) reinstall the message delete app and let it run overnight while you are sleeping(make sure phone is plugged in). it should be cleaned out by morning

2) go to menu-settings-applications and click on each app that shows and if there is a cache button, press it to clear the apps cache.

4) download a any sms backup app and save the text you want and delete the rest every 2 days or so. the app will let you save texts to the sd card.

3) if you are rooted, there are ways to install apps to memory card as well as auto cache cleaners.

Good luck

Thanks for your quick response.

I already went through all the apps and cleared the caches. I also have the background data and the auto sync shut off as a way to save battery life. I continually go to settings>applications>running services and stop any apps that are running as well.

Per your suggestion, I'll reinstall the SMS cleaner now and try removing the texts overnight tonight. Hope that works. I'll keep ya posted.

Enjoy the rest of your day.  Smiley

Hi guys,

The SMS cleaner works, but since I have soooooo many texts still on my phone, it takes a long time. I am running the cleaner at night when the phone is plugged in and I will need to keep running it every night for a while. Lesson learned!  Embarrassed

Thanks again.

Hi again..

So all of my SMS/texts are now deleted and I am down to 13.89mb of internal storage space left. booo.....

I guess rooting and starting from scratch is the only thing left to do...

Just make sure you read up on how to first. Its really the better way to go. Unless you want to drop apps you really don't use.

Thanks,
I read the posts and reviews and I printed the tutorial from here.

I have cleared all my caches and I really don't have that many apps. I guess I'm confused as to why it seems that some are saved to the SD card and some are not. (?) I have PLENTY of room on my SD card. (7.28GB available of 7.39GB total space = plenty.)

Ahh well... time for some spring cleaning....
