I haven't had the Eris long, and I really like it.  However, recently it has developed a problem that as yet, I haven't been able to solve.  When I pull the phone out, and hit the power button to wake it up, the lock screen appears. I unlock it with a simple swipe and I am normally presented with the central home screen.  Generally my next step is to pull down the windowshade notification panel, and check email, Twitter, and Facebook notifications.  Lately though, the home screen location indicator will drift to the left, all on its own!  I swipe the screen back in place, and it immediately slides back to the left.

It doesn't do this all the time, but way more than necessary!

I have recalibrated the G-Sensor, but this has had no effect.

Any suggestions?  I have been unable to find anything related to this on HTC's support forum, or anywhere else for that matter.

Are you running 1.5 or 2.1?

I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a 2.1 problem. It is a very strange issue, calibration would be my first action but you have already done that.  Next I would consider any apps that you have installed recently or any settings you have changed, even if seemingly unrelated. If there is no cause relation with those I would say first call VZW and then hard rest, or the other way around as VZW is just going to have you hard rest anyway, don't forget to backup.

I have been having the same problem for about a month now! Also, when I am texting, the phone will move the cursor to left while I am typing, which scrambles words..it is very annoying to say the least! I have recalibrated the G-Sensor as well, and it did not fix the problem. I did a hard reset as well. Wondering if the hard reset worked for you?

I am having the same problem with the key pad scrambling letters. My screen doesn't move to the left but when I unlock it sometimes the unlock screen sticks half way down and shakes. I got my eris in February and replaced it about a month later due to water damage. When I got my replacement, which I'm assuming is a refurbished phone but I could be wrong, it just wasn't the same as the original out of the box. I haven't tried calibration yet but seeing as how you both said it didn't work I'm hoping there is a different fix. Anybody find anything about this issue?

I'm having the exact same issue on my Eris, with both 1.5 and 2.1 (did the OTA last weekend).  And it's getting progressively worse.  Beforehand, it would just sometimes randomly page one home screen left when I had it sitting on the desk nearby.  Now it will occasionally snap the home screen all the way to the left and not allow me to swipe it back to the right; a swipe moves the screen a little bit and then it pops right back to the left.  I've had to set up a duplicate of my main home screen on the leftmost one, in case it gets stuck there!

It doesn't always do it, but sometimes it happens when I'm holding it, and sometimes it happens when I've got it connected to my PC and sitting on the table near it.  It doesn't always have to be in my hand for this problem to occur.

One I would make sure your trackball is clean, can use alcohol wipe.  Second you might need to recalibrate your phone.  Settings>sounds and display, scroll to bottom, tap g-sensor calibration and follow instructions.

i'm having the exact same issues with my phone. just started doing it since i've upgraded to the 2.1 the only other thing that i can think of is that i'm using Handcent SMS now too... this didn't start directly after i installed Handcent so i don't know if they are even related. and it doesn't happen all the time... but it is soooo annoying. anybody have any ideas or fixes yet?

Sorry I just started another thread on this same issue before I saw this.  I have tried the factory reset and it still didn't work, AND I've tried all of the other tips as well... Just reset my phone again... SO frustrating to have to do that... This is getting to the point where I might return the phone.  Does anyone think that VZ might replace it?  I don't have protection on it...

Don't worry about the other thread, I took care of it.  I do understand your frustration, my last phone made me cuss like a sailor!   I do think the phone comes with a one year warranty, if I am wrong someone please correct me.  My advice to you would be to call Verizon, instead of going to a store,  tell them your problem since you received the OTA, what you have done to try and resolve the problem.  They may refer you to tech support to see if they can help fix it and if they cannot not they should send you a replacement Eris.  Let us know what happens.
