Hi everyone. Since I did the switch to Android from blackberry Im loving the market. So much in fact I have quite a few apps downloaded and since then it seems to be lagging prety bad. I do have the 2.1 softwrae on it. I also have app killer which does free up some stuff, but even with everything cleared Im still only showing 36mb free. Any ideas?

First off - un-install the App killer for a couple of days. They can be the cause of this type behavior. If it keeps running slowly, repost here and we'll try some more things.

Also, I think it'd be a good idea to go through and clear cache from all your apps.
settings > applications > manage apps
Let it load up for a minute,
menu > sort by size
start from the top and clear cache on anything big.

When you download a lot of apps in a short amount of time you might have a lot of temp files, and stored cache within those apps.

This should be done on a somewhat regular basis, too, if you use your apps a lot.

Best wishes!

Excellent advice from Chewy.  I try to do this on a regular basis and it definitely helps make a difference for the better.

OK, been traveling a few days.  What's the scoop on APK?  Just had my third battery replacement due to super high drain rate (charging three times in one day), and now it's back to normal.  The Best Buy guys keep recommending APK, but I'm getting the distinct impression from Rip and Monty that it's UNGOOD...

My perspective comes from my experience as a linux user. The best article I have seen on this issue is http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/.

One thing to consider is a comment I saw from Chewy in another thread - that is that battery problems often stem from poorly written apps, A possible good use for an app killer - Is there certain apps that you seem to be constantly needing to kill? I'd ask myself "why". I know for a fact that I had one app that I ran for a long time (cause I liked it) but battery use seemed really high. Uninstalled it for a week and presto - battery life much improved. I decided I didn't need the app as much as I needed battery life.

That's one approach...

Yeah,
I think I had read that from an article written during the Google I/O conference a couple weeks back.  I can't remember who wrote, maybe Gizmodo, Techcrunch, or something like that.

Anyway, it was basically a Google exec, saying that most of the battery drain issues, and tasks running issues are from poorly written apps, developers not optimizing the code and processes in their apps to be sleek and almost unnoticeable.

I don't use a task killer any more, the phone is still very snappy, as if I were using a task killer.  But lately I have had a battery drain (I think) issue, which I recently installed 3(cubed) music player, so I think I'm going to uninstall that one and hope its the problem.

Cheers!

Before you uninstall Cubed (assuming you like it) make sure you are closing it cleanly. To do so you must have a song loaded, pause it, and hit the back button, If you don't it stays loaded and YEP it's a battery burner.  Undecided

Aha!  Thanks Monty,

That might have been the issue, I can't remember how I last exited that player.
Since I hardly listen to music I'll go ahead and uninstall.  Should help things out overall.
