google voice? help?

There is an app on 2.1 market called google voice and its free to install, does not say anything about an invite.  Do not have it installed on my phone. 

you do need to apply for a google voice number in order for the app to work on your phone.  you can apply to get just the access to be able to use google voice for voice mail or to get the phone number and it gives you access to voice mail as well.  I believe the google voice website has a bunch of information on what is "included" with each application.  It took me about a month to get my invite.  It could be that when i got my invite was when i was able to choose what type of number i wanted...i can't remember.

i Love googal voice over the visual voice mail.  Unless the visual voice mail has had some significant improvements lately that i haven't seen.  The google voice mail actually creates a transcript of the voice mail that was left so that you can view it as a text message so you never have to listen to the call.  Sometimes the "translation" doesn't work very well but you can get the idea of the message that's being left.  You can always click to listen to it as well.  I also like that i can check my google voice and text messages sent to my google number from my gmail if i accidentally leave my phone at home.  I can also have the calls routed to my work number if people are calling my google voice number (which i currently have routed to my cell). 

The google voice website has lots of videos and information as to what all of the different features of the program has.  Pretty cool if i do say so myself.
