There is a new version of Astro File Manager in the market.

http://www.metago.net/astro/fm/

2 new features are transfer files by WiFi & transfer files by Bluetooth.

Some other things you can do with the ASTRO File Manager

•Manage all files on your SD card (copy, move, rename)
•Manage multiple files and directories at once
•Backup applications
•Manage running applications
•Send files as attachments
•View thumbnails and images
•Browse and create compressed files like Zip and Tar
•Much more

Manage Files ASTRO will help you copy, move, delete and rename files. You can work with single files or multiple files. ASTRO does this in an intelligent manner working with your phone. These actions will be completed correctly even if you receive a phone call during the transaction. (try that test with other file managers and see what happens to your data.)

Backup Applications ASTRO makes it easy to backup and restore public applications and also to install and un-install them. This means you can backup and un-install less frequently used applications, then quickly re-install them when needed. Since Android does not allow applications to be run from the SD card, this offers you the next best solution for freeing up the limited internal memory.

Manage running applications The Process Manager will show you all running Applications, Services, and Processes. It displays running statistics for each one including the amount of memory and CPU each one is using. Applications can be stopped (killed), opened, detailed or ignored. This allows you to see if any applications use too many resources and keep you phone running smoothly.

Send files as attachments ASTRO will let you send files as attachments to your email. You can also send images to other applications like Messaging or Picasa, or any other application that has registered to receive files.

View thumbnails and images You can set the directory options to view thumbnails of any image in the directory (not just images in your picture gallery). ASTRO also has includes an image viewer that shows a thumbnail gallery of all the images in your current directory and supports gestures to rotate and change images.

Browse and create compressed files ASTRO has built in support for reading and extracting compressed files like Zip and Tar files. You can browse the file just like it is another directory. You can extract individual files using copy and paste just like any other file. For Zip files you can also move, delete and rename files without having to extract the whole file.

Just an FYI--for anyone interested.  I just read complaints on Appbrain saying that, if you download this new version, it is a beta test and you will be required to pay for the app next month.

Just to advise, all their releases are in beta. You will not have to pay for it. Everytime they release an update its in beta and when the beta ends, you will be prompted to download the new version.

It usually prompts you when its going to expire as a reminder. People claimed the same thing after the last beta release and when I was prompted to download the final version, there was no charge..

Thanks for the info Jrocker.  I would hate to have to switch everything over or, even worse, get left high and dry like what happened when we got the notice that Swype beta had ended.  That was a really anxious 6 hours of so--until I found the link here on how to get it back.

I haven't had a chance to test the transfer processes (wifi, BT) but after I have I'll post the results here  Grin

So I played around with both transfers a bit. Looks like the new feature is a "shortcut maker"  for the two connection types-

Bluetooth - Sorry kids I can't get it to work with either of my BT antenna. It wants to default to BT audio just like it always has (Phone to PC). I read somewhere that this was restricted by Verizon's network. One of you rooted folks should give this a whirl...

WiFi - I'm not sure I understand the benefit of this. Astro already supports SFTP and if you set up a "WiFi" connection it still wants SFTP protocol info just like the "network" connection does. So what's the difference? It seems to me it would only matter if you were in a pure WiFi environment and forgot to turn on WiFi.

[Currently I use AndFTP and it works great. But I am testing against 2 Linux servers one of which is port forwarding external FTP traffic to the other. AndFTP works because it is using standard FTP protocol and not SFTP. My belligerent gateway server won't pass SFTP traffic (a topic for the Linux forums) so my Astro tests haven't panned out well. Astro will connect to my gateway (Linux) server with no problem, which means that technically Astro's WiFi/Network connections work with a Linux server.]

My point is that to really test Astro's SFTP connection maker we need someone with access to a Windows FTP server. Anybody out there tried this or have this kind of setup?
