Not unless you don't like the Rom that came with it (I would recommend kaos froyo)

Rooting was insanely easy...and Kaos Froyo is amazinggggg...the instant I started playing with it and sped up the speed of changing screens and stuff I was like..."why did I want an iPhone?" That was all until my screen broke and now I'm Erisless

I am the same way about rooting my phone.  I have read all of the treads but I am just not "tecky" enough to pull it off myself.  I am always trying something on my phone.  I am getting tired of some of things the eris doesn't do and it should. My biggest complaint is the battery life.  I know if i see someone with a rooted phone that will push me off this fense I am stuck on.

Jshep, one click root method is used to get your Eris rooted, you only use this method the one time.   Once rooted you can flash roms, like kaosfroyo, or any other rom all you want.

Rooted now for 3 weeks. No regrets. Why worry about th warranty of a phone they abandoned? As long as Rom developers are around, the Eris will be months ahead of the stock Rom. You on regret it.
