I bought a Droid Eris from Verizon, and nobody warned me that it was near the end of its life cycle. My phone turned out to be defective (trackball issue), and from investigations I had done, this wasn't an isolated incident. Other people have had to get 2-3 phones replaced, and they finally were offered another phone. I want the same offer they got, without having to suffer using a phone that's no longer being supported, can't get accessories for, or get a warranty replacement for in a reasonable amount of time.

Verizon, do you want to make this right? Then please offer me a different phone at the 2 year contract price. I'll jump through whatever hoops you want me to, but I don't want to be shackled to an unsupported phone for 2 more years.

No offense to you guys, as I think the Eris is a great phone, but it pretty clear that the Eris is no longer going to be supported by Verizon anymore. To think that a cell company would willingly sell an outdated phone, and then shackle me to an unsupported (or soon unsupported phone) is just evil.

Do you guys have any advice?

They will stop selling the phone but will not stop providing support. I think this is evident with the recent OTA.  My advice is call vzw and get the trackball issue fixed, they will likely only offer you a referb eris.

They shipped me my replacement Eris, and to my dismay it was running 2.1, as I was hoping to root it before updating. I believe there really was only a small chance they wouldn't send me an updated phone. I guess I'll just have to wait until somebody bothers to figure out how to root in 2.1.  Huh?

It is nice to have a phone without the trackball issue, but I really wonder how long this phone's trackball will last...

I'm on my 5th replacement Eris through Verizon. Back when I was with Alltel, if you had been through 5 replacement phones, they would give you a different phone at contract price without extending your contract. So knowing this, I called up Verizon to see what they could do for me. Not shat is what they could do for me. I asked them "what if I keep getting p.o.s. phones that have obvious software issues?" The response was "We'll keep giving you a replacement phone until you can upgrade"

Way to solve my problem Verizon.

So don't feel bad, you're not the only one going through hell and back with Verizon, a.k.a. Satan's asshole.

Well, I have definitely learned my lesson. I'm definitely going to do some research into my next phone and search for things like software issues, hardware issues, people's opinion on phones etc. When I bought my Eris, I had to buy a phone for work, so I had to buy it THAT DAY. I won't make that mistake twice.

Agreed!

You could always buy an iPhone 4. Just remember to "hold it correctly" and watch it when you charge it since it likes to catch on fire when you plug in the USB port  Cheesy

 Cheesy

Oh Apple. What would us comedians do without you? Your just like those dorky kids that try so hard to be cool, but end up looking even more dorky.

And as for AT-T, I'd rather suffer through a mediocre unsupported phone on a great network than have an iPhone that can't make phone calls in some areas.
