Hi,

My droid Eris started showing a " Low on Space" Notification.  I've read several responses on this forum regarding this topic.  I have cleared out all caches, deleted all email, text threads, etc.  As for apps, I don't run many at any given time...maybe 4 or 5 at most. That said, even with all apps shut down, and clearing out caches, texts, etc., I'm still only getting 10.48MB available phone storage space.  The SD card still has about 7 gig.

Is there some background app running I don't know about.  Or...what could be gobbling up my internal storage space?  I haven't downloaded many apps.  In fact I deleted most that I downloaded. When downloading apps, do they automatically get saved in the phone's internal storage, or do they get saved to the SD card. I just can't seem to account for the low storage.  What can I do, to recover the storage(or find what's eating up the internal storage), and get rid of the notification?

Thanks,

If you go to menu--settings--storage, how much does it say you have left?

The memory that you are getting the warning about is the phone's internal memory. Something is using up a lot of it. You wouldn't happen to be using an "App Killer" of some kind would you?

My Internal phone Storage is 10.48MB.  This is with no apps running at all.  I am running an app killer (jkAppSwitch).  Downloaded it when I first got the phone in March.  This low storage warning only started last week.  So, I'm not convinced that the app killer is the issue.

I just went to menu....settings....applications....running services, and shut  everything down there.  Now my internal storage is 11.63MB.

What else can I do?

Thanks

I'm not convinced either but in my experience app killers are notorious for this kind if behavior. You might try unloading it for a couple of days abd see if the problem clears up. If not you can always reload it.

Your apps are stored in internal memory, unless you root and then are able to have them go to the sd card.  THey do not have to be running to take up memory.

If you like the appkiller then stick with it, personally found them to do more harm than good and have not used any since december.

When you go to settings>applications>manage apps> then sort them by size do you have several large apps on your phone?  When you go to settings>apps>running services what do you see?

I have several apps that I would consider large: Droid Market at 2.24MB, Opera Mini at 1.88MB, Quickoffice at 3.54MB, Pana.ma(a voice text app) at 2.64MB and Unit converter app, ConvertPad at 1.23MB.  , Maps at 1.72MB and Mail at 116MB.  Everything else is in the  KB range  20-800kB range.

BTW, I just uninstalled my App Killer.  without an app killer, what's the best way to manage power consumption?

Thanks!

Well thats not much at all.  Clear all your caches again, text, call history, etc. Reboot your phone and check internal memory again.

Let your phone manage itself, thats what I finally did and my battery life improved.  You can always check running services to see what may be "hung" up draining the battery and you can stop it from there.
