I have seen a few posts about this and wanted to post my situation. I used to have about twenty large apps and I had no memory problems. Then about a month ago I started getting low memory warnings. I constantly clear messages, have deleted all my photos, only have 3 apps, all of which are less than .5 mB. And yet I constantly get low memory warnings when I have not added anything to my phone. I have cleared all the data caches and still cannot even open my messages. Please if anyone knows how to deal with this I would appreciate help.

Well the photos are on your external SD card so you do not need to clear those. As far as your low memory: if you haven't done so, try a re boot. If that is a no go, go into Settings>Accounts&Sync and refresh your Google account. If that still doesn't work, I feel like a factory wipe may be in order, although I would recommend waiting for another member to back this up as it is the most severe option.

As for the number of apps: if you are an avid app downloader and user, You can root the phone making it accept apps to be stored on your SD card, freeing up most if not all of your internal memory. If you are interested, we have a whole section on rooting here and tutorials here.

I am about ready to move to the iPhone and can this Droid Eris. I am getting the same
low memory message which began last week. I went through the phone and cleared every casche, removed many applications (those that I could remove), removed a number of email accounts and the low memory icon finally left. Then this morning it was back and I haven't added anything. On top of that the phone keeps going to silent mode and I miss calls. It may decide to make it's own phone call without letting me know. It will show that I have numerous gmail messages waiting and yet I get 0 download until it decides sometime to finally download messages. It decides on its own to suddenly lock the screen and go black in the middle of a call and....well I could keep on but I won't. I am NOT happy with this phone. Had it for many months now and I am rapidly falling out of love with it. I may try to download all my contacts to my computer and then do a factory reboot to see if that will help. Can't afford to lose my contacts.

Sounds like your running the cursed 2.1 update from Verizon.  You need to do a factory reset. If your contacts are saved to your Google account you will get back.  You can root your phone: which saved me  or get the iPhone.

I as well have the same problem! I have only about 13 apps downloaded on my droid eris and have removed most of my pictures to my computer as well as clearing all caches and even downloaded 1-click cleaner, which didn't help at all but to delete my text messages all at once which was really good. Now I only have  a total space of 7.39 GB on my phone and what is available is 6.81 Gb. I do have a SD card in and it is an 8 GB, but my internal memory storage is only 8.93 MB. If anyone can help, it is greatly appreciated! I am also tempting to go to the Verizon Store shortly. This is about my third droid so I  might demand just another phone in general. I have had alot of problems with the droid eris as experiencing typing backwards and just freezing in general.

Hey all,
I've been a lurker on these forums awhile just reading and learning, but I've run into a new problem I just can't solve! Having just come off of the latest UD ROM due to problems with text messages not being sent / received, I decided to switch to CM7 rc 2. In both of these Gingerbread ROMs, my phone is constantly low on memory. I am really into homescreen modding, so perhaps I over-use widgets (at one point I had 3 homescreens full of desktop visualizer widgets).

Having cut back to 5 widgets, I am still constantly running out of memory! I disabled tasker to save memory, tried removing ALL widgets and going icons only, but to no avail.

I am running Widgetlocker lockscreen (with two additional widgets on it) with Launcher Pro, and both run out of memory frequently enough that Widgetlocker frantically pops up with the message "Widgetlocker has been granted superuser permission" as it restarts over and over. This low memory state causes bizzaro things to happen with SMS (5+ duplicate receives / sends, no send, no receive, etc).

I realize the droid is limited with 256 mb of RAM compared to other phones, but even with a swap file my phone is failing on me!

All on a fresh install, wipe system / data / cache CM 7 rc2.
15mb of free memory on fresh boot.

Any ideas how to improve free memory?
