Hi,

First of all, before i ask a question, i would like to thank all the ppl who answer all the users questions.Without you guys, we wont know what our ERIS is capable off. And i was blown away by the power of android phone. its like ms windows, there's a lot of software around available! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and spending your precious time!

Back to my question.
i have 3 different chargers on my eris phone, what i know in every electronics its the OUTPUT is the most important part.

1 home - original eris charger 5v 1A
1 home2 - 5v 400mA
1 work - 5v 500mA( i think)

does using different chargers and different mA ruin my phone in a long run?
how does this affect my phone?

It most likely wont ruin your phone as long as the volt is 5 or less. Since you have 3 and they are all 5v but different amps, you may see a slower charge with the 2 non eris chargers. It may be a noticeable difference or it may be slight. You would have to pay attention.

Also the 2 non eris have smaller amps so it cant hurt either. As long as you stay at the same level or slightly smaller you normally should be ok but may see some charging performance difference or if it is too low of supply you may not charge or power at all.

Having more is no good because too much power could flow and fry your phone or any electronic.

If anyone has better info or notices I may be wrong with any of this, please post a followup...

JRocker is right.

As long as they are 5v no harm for the phone. Lower amp means longer charge times. Anything below 300 mA may not charge at all.

I use so many different chargers for my phone and have never looked at the volts, etc.  So far phone charges and no problems.

The voltage rating on the charger is very important. It should be the same rating as the phone's charging port rating. That info should be in the manual I would imagine. If not, then ask someone who has an original charger that came with the phone, and make sure the voltage is the same.

The current (amps) is not as critical, but it still matters.
Not to be argumentative, but contrary to what someone already said, too high of an amp rating on the charger will not hurt the phone. As that is the amp capacity of the charger, i.e. that is what the charger is capable of putting out. But the phone's charge rate will determing how much amps actually flow. So having an amp rating too high will have no effect. Having an amp rating too low could have detrimental effects. Because if the phone needs more amps than the charger can supply, sometimes the voltage will drop, and that actually can damage the electronics.

These statements are true for pretty much all electronic equipment.

I was looking at Best Buy for either a wall charger or a USB cable, and I could find neither. Reluctantly I asked for help from the guy at the phone department. He said sure, they have one right here. And he proceeded to show me a mini-USB adapter.

I was like, that's not the right one.
He said, yes it is. Wanna bet?

And then the strangest thing happened. I mean, stranger than liberals and conservatives holding hands singing we are the world.

A Best Buy employee actually knew what he was talking about.  Shocked
I was stunned.

Stunned, but also really happy, because I have tons of mini-USB cables laying around the house and at work. Adn I have some 120Vac to USB adapters too. So I didn't need to spend any money on a charger. YAY!

Well, I first tried plugging into a 5V/500mA adapter. It took FOREVER to charge the phone. I mean FOREVER. Plugged into the USB port of my laptop took a long time to. So I wondered what the rating of teh HTC charger I had at home was. It was 5V/1A.
So I then remembered that my old phone had a USB type charger too, so I checked it's rating. It was also 5V/1A, so I took it to work the next day, and tried it out. MUCH FASTER.

So apparently 1A or 1000mA is the ideal charger for the Eris for those that are interested.
If your charger is taking longer than about 3 hours to charge your phone from completely dead to 100%, you might check the amp rating on it. It may be too low.

Wayno, you are absolutely right.  I know for sure anything below 300mA won't charge the phone. It will lit like charging, but hours will pass and no increase in charge.

1A is the ideal charger. More than 1A won't hurt the phone, as it will only draw whatever amps it needs.
