Hi,

My google talk app suddenly stopped running. When I click the icon on my Eris, the screen shifts left, then there's a black screen, then shifts back to my home screen. This all happens in an instant.  When I check the "running services" screen, under applications in settings, it says that GTalkServices running, and shows the elapsed time since it started.  Anyone else having this problem? What's up with this?  All of my talk pals tell me that I'm showing offline on their phone when they start up google talk.

Any wisdom is appreciated.

Thanks,

Are you signed into gmail?  Also have you gone into manage applications and cleared the cache for this app?

Yeah, I'm definitely signed into gmail. In fact, I have google talk set up to immediately sign me in  upon start up of the app.  The problem is, the app just won't start.  Also, all caches are cleared, text, voice and email histories are cleared.  I got nuh-ting....nuuuuuuh-ting,  as Robert De Niro put it in the Untouchables.

I'm running 2.1. Downloaded it about a month ago.  Have to admit, I'm perplexed.  The issues I've described are all recent problems....not chronic....although, it's becoming chronic.

I've read a little about rooting, but, don't know enough to root my phone.  I'd Like to try if it's not too difficult.  I'm fairly savvy, but not the sharpest tech head out there.

A month ago did you just get 2.1 from 1.5?  A patch for 2.1 just came out, did you get that one?  There is a thread here to do it manually if you did not get it OTA.

Root is easy but you need to be comfortable doing it.

I'm not aware about a patch for 2.1.  When I check for updates, my phone says my operating system is up to date.  So...I'm guessing the patch was included when I loaded 2.1.  If not, please let me know where I can find the patch.

Thanks!

Well, I finally solved the problem with talk and low memory.  I decided to contact Verizon's tech support.  Apparently, with some phones, the 2.1 has had some weird quirks.  One of which is a false read on low memory.

Bottom line, I reset the phone to factory default settings, wiping everything out and starting fresh as if right out of the box.  This fixed the issue altogether.  I re-sync'd my data from my gmail account, then reloaded all my apps.  the unit is working fine.  Memory after reloading my apps is around 100MB.  So, I'm good.   The "poison pill" was my only recourse.  Thanks for your suggestions and I'll glad to provide input on this forum as things arise.

Thanks for letting everyone know.  This is the first I have heard of OTA 2.1 having a problem with not reading memory correctly.  Learn something everyday.
