The guys over at XDA are working on a 2.2 Froyo Rom for the Eris. They have one working, but has some kinks they need to work out first. You have to be rooted of course, but still...

Angry What the heck is "Rooted" or "Unrooted" mean...Is it the "Upper crust "Sexcret Society" or something?

I am trying to explain some stuff in Spanish. but this is really bugging me. Sorry I am a bit desperate, but so much is being said about Droid, and on top of it all this ROOTED secret knowledge. I want to translate it so please "bear" with me.

Basically an UNrooted phone is the phone not being modified, its just the way you bought it from the store. Straight out of the box.

A Rooted phone is a modified phone. There is a way to flash the phone with a customized operating system that gives you all the original options but also gives you access to the hidden operating system files which can let you do much more, such as:

Change the way the phone starts up
Ability to delete the pre-installed applications that you normally cant do
Able to actually run apps of the phones memory card so you save memory with the phones internal memory
Overclock the speed of the phone to run a litte faster

and much more

I don't think verizon forgot about the eris, i think they broke up with it and got with the incredible. thats their new baby and put all their effort in that. we will never see an update unless you figure out how to root to the 2.2. it would be nice to have the flash player though.

how to root 2.2? shat i have a rooted 2.2 rom on my phone right now. root permissions on a rom is one of the easiest things in the world.

we already have one 2.2 rom, i got one of my own working- trashed it cuz it wasnt stable enough though-but the point is that the eris already has 2.2

flash is a no-no though. probably not ever going to have it. flash 10.1 plugin isnt for our processor.

Froyo is nice, ran kaosfroyo for a day or 2 and it was stable and fast. I need my partitioned SD to run a2sd for all of the other ROMs I am testing and partitions don't play nice with froyo so I bumped it until there are more froyo builds to play with. We will never see an official build of froyo from vzw/htc.
