Just in case to clarify, to see the  "time without a signal" option you have to press on the "Cell Standby" option on that list.

Each item listed has futher details if you press on the option your looking at..

Here are screen shots

Press on "Cell Standby" to get to the next screen

This is where you want to see the "Time without a signal" info.

Ok.. (confession)

I went ahead and put 2.1 on my Eris LMAO! I couldn't wait any longer for the official one..

So.. I'm loving it!! EXCEPT for this same battery problem SikYou has brought up... I am really wondering what exactly is making it do that :-/

Did you go for root? That would be the way to go at this point. I can't wait to see root for the leaked 2.1 so I can put together a ROM or 2 and finally be able to do what I want with this device.

As for the battery issue with the no signal business...I have done some testing and I find that the results are very inconsistent. Sometimes I am at 50%, sometimes 0%. There does not seem to be a pattern that I can identify, the airplane mode fix works only sporadically. The one thing that I have determined without question is that there is little to no difference in battery life whether I'm at 50 or 0. So my ever so technical fix is...forget about it  Grin I haven't looked at the darn thing in 2 days and my battery is fine and I'm less stressed about it. Besides, I have root to worry about now.

No I didn't go root Sad

and I'm not really sure if I wish I did or am glad I didn't right now HAHAHA..

Anyways..

The only bugs that are really getting to me are the Cell Standby battery bug and the Google Login at boot bug...
It's kind of annoying having to go through that Step Process with the airplane mode thing every time I change my battery lol..

Another thing i've noticed and haven't seen anywhere else..

Facebook updates multiple times within a minute or 2... When I turn airplane mode back off to fix the standby issue, facebook re-syncs, and notifies me of any updates.. but even after I check them and exit out, I get another update notification within seconds with the same updates... this happens 3-4 times per sync..

I've also noticed that, for some reason, Google Talk opens up automatically with every boot in the background and keeps the phone awake at all times... Has anyone figured out how to disable it from opening aside from the typical menu settings? (already disabled "Auto Sign In")

I don't use facebook sync so I am basically worthless for a fix on that one. I also don't use google talks so my solution to that problem is to wait for root and rip that app the heck out  Cheesy Basically I have no clue.

I almost feel that the cell standby reading is arbitrary and is inaccurate.  I can't find anything that indicates that the cell signal is actually on standby for 50% of the time or that it affects my battery.

Well, I don't use Google Talk Either.. but there is a Shortcut you can add to your home screen called "Running Services" which is sort of like a built in Manual Task Killer that came with 2.1.. and when i boot my phone, unless I go in there and tell Google Talk to close.. It keeps the phone awake at all times... Much like the Stock Messaging app did in 1.5..

Personally I noticed a BIG change in my battery life, in a bad way.. I left the house today, just after installing the update and setting a few things up.. and had about 70% battery life.. within 2 hours i was down to about 25% :-O so naturally, i became a little worried lol, and started poking around for reasons why my battery was dying so quickly..

Right now, Using the airplane mode trick, and stopping Google Talk from running have helped a LOT, and it feels almost back to normal now, but I wont know for another day or 2 for sure.. I will gather some data tomorrow using the same batteries i posted data about the other day, and see if the numbers add up to anything good Smiley

As SikYou mentioned earlier, I was stressing about time without a signal deal too and quite frankly it's been inconsistent, I think it is a bogus reading due to a bug.
I turned my phone on Sunday morning and the damn thing said 9hrs up time...50% time without a signal 10 minutes after I turned it on! .ha-ha.
I have noticed that after charging it fully a couple of times the battery life is as good, if not better than before.
I dont use it a ton but I have email push every 30 minutes, weather every 1 hour and facebook every 2 hours. I leave background data on now for the weather updates and I shut my phone at night.
I have been able to go without a charge 3 days consistently, again I use it to make calls and check email if I am out of the office at the gym or whatever.
Whatever that reading is suppossed to be doing I dont think its affecting battery and I am sure its bogus. Hopefully we can get our hands on the official 2.1 release and maybe that will include some fixes for some of the bugs.

With that said, I love my Eris, I love 2.1 and I can't wait to see what's next!!!

I kill all apps that are not needed for the system to run.. I am pretty thorough about it.  I checked my reading for my battery use yesterday.. and here is what it was..

1500mah usage on 2.1
7% battery remaining
UP time: 23:25:59
Awake time: 17:13:45

i did NOT use my phone for 17 hours straight lol.. I would say i probably used it for a total of 2 hours that day.. MAX..

this as compared to my last reading with the same battery on 1.5:

1500mah usage on 1.5
15% battery remaining
UP time: 43:42:09
Awake time: 2:46:05 (6%)

As you can see, my battery life has been greatly reduced by about an entire day...

Hopefully the official OTA update will include fixes for some of these issues we are having..

Eddie, try a hard reset. My awake time is still around 10-15%. Install apps slowly to see if maybe an app causing the problem. VZW announced 2.1 for moto Droid rolling out tomorrow so we shouldn't be far behind.

So SikYou, quick question (just wondering) do you know how we who, installed the leaked version, are going to get the official update? do you think we will get it on our phones? or will we have to wait for a downloaded rom and instructions from a dev on how to update?

There should be no problem getting the update as long   as the build number is the same or higher than the one we have now.

I can't seem to get Google Maps or any navigation apps to work. They all stop and I have to force close after about 15 seconds of them being open.

ok i noticed some one talking about being able to put a short cut for the useage from holding on the home screen. Also, i seen one about the test manager. here is a simple way to get to those with out having the short cut for and on the screen. if you hit the home botton the window shrinks and shows all seven of the possble usable home screen, you hit it again it enlarges back. if you hold down the home botton a small window opens up with six short cuts and the last six programs that were opened. . Now i have astro file manager installed and used to use the task killer. every time i would hit kill all the amazon mp3 store app would always restart on its own. well i click on the short cut processes on this small window and it gives what basicly looks like the astro task killer app but with out going threw the astro app to get there. and now it only shows four apps running and the phone working fine and no amazon mp3 that keeps starting when done other ways. i have been playing with the update for a while. i didn notice the google log in error but try  not to have to restart alot. to much downtime. i did notice when trying to text if i try to spell out I'm useing xt9 it would not spell it out and i had to keep typeing it manualy even it i tryed to save it. typeing the work only freezes up the window only to hit the delete button to find out it was typeing but not showing it. its been an hour now and still no, amazon mp3 app on in the back ground. this is on the first leaked version of the 2.1. i have not installed the second one yet.  oh and when i downloaded it it did not have google talk preinstalled. and i did the airplan trick and it seemed to work. it didnt even show any time without a signal. hummm
