Is better to be rooted? What benefits do I get to do this? I don't but I do?

I think if you read the threads its obvious that rooted is better.  Benefits have been outlined from various members.  Rooting is not a scary process and very easy to complete.

If anyone is nervous about this process then you should stay with VW os 2.1 that currently is available for the eris.

Oh and there is a tutorial to unroot your phone back to 2.1 from VW.

I would have to agree that having root is much better, mine and my wifes phones have never been smother, its just amazing.

Root is not for everyone. A great man once said "read, read, read". Only then will you know if root is right for you or not.  I guess the nice thing is you could always unroot and go back that ever so boring vzw rom.

some pro's to rooting.

1.Being able to overclock (do your reading before you jump into it or you might send yourself into a boot cycle)
2. Being able to change tons of things (boot animation, Notification Bar, etc...)
3. Being able to remove pre-installed apps that just sit and take up room on your phone
4.  The ability to put all your apps on the Sd card rather than take up room on your internal storage.
5. The ability to Backup your phone in case you change roms and want to go back to the way you had it.
6. The ability to get updates that you normally would have to wait to get, (Froyo)
Those are just to name a few, hope this helps

I'm getting a replacement phone from VW as my earpiece and speaker is going out. I was wondering if I can root the new phone ( I think it will come w/ 2.1) And should I do anything to the old phone as it has 2.1 ver3 on it before I send it back to VW under warranty.

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place it's my first time.

I give many thanks to all who have posted about root, a2sd, and roms. This has been an experience, but now I know how to do it and will probably root my wife's phone, if she will let me. Thanks again for all the help in he forums. I feel like I have a brand new phone!
