Greetings earthlings!
I'm a new forum dweller here, and I wanted to see what I could find out about rooting my phone and putting a stable Froyo 2.2 ROM.
I hope I can still root my Eris, as I installed the 2.1 update without thinking. My geek senses tell me that the current rooting method may only work with the 1.6 firmware. Is there a proven 2.1 stock root method available yet?
I'm wanting to put a custom Froyo 2.2 ROM on my Eris to try and do a few things:
1. Take advantage of the speed enhancements of Froyo, because the hardware isn't as powerful as say the Droid or Droid X, and the Eris could really use a decent speed increase. Would also help emulators too. ^_^
2. Get rid of SenseUI. I don't really mind it, if but for one thing: The Wiimote app won't work with SenseUI phones due to a SenseUI bug! I'm a huge Wiimote fan, and use my Wiimote and Classic Controller as a gamepad with my PC using a Bluetooth Dongle and a scripter called GlovePIE. So I would love to be able to play my emulators with my Wiimote.
3. Try the wi-fi tethering without paying the crazy $30+ a month fee for it. Its bad enough I have to pay for 500 minutes when I use only 20.
From skimming the forums here, it would seem that Eris ROM's are behind all the other more popular phones because only a few of us bothered to buy one. So it sounds like its going to be awhile before there is a stable Froyo 2.2 ROM for Eris out there. However, I also feel that there isn't much chance of the Eris getting a 2.2 stock update, as the phone is going to be phased out soon (but I'm still going to be stuck with it :/ ).
Seems these forums would be the place to learn about such things.
So am I crazy or what?
