And now - a man with a tape recorder...up his nose

WWW
« on: July 18, 2010, 02:51:32 PM »

So after pouring over XDA Developers etc. looking for overclocking information for the "newly rooted" I discovered that there is a lot of info but it is "all over the place". I thought it might be helpful to put this thread out there for you veteran overclockers might share your experiences and references with us "noobs".

How about it - what have you all been doin' to your phones?  Huh?

I agree Monty, would love to hear some feedback on overclocking to see what is possible and what is not.

I'm Over Clocking EE at 748
and my profiles are:
Temp > 45.2C: 480 max 245 min, Priority 100
Screen Off: 480 max 245 min, Priority 75
Battery < 100%: 748 max 729 min, Priority 50

I tried OC'ing to 806, but then every time i tried to change it back it would freeze then reboot, i had to uninstall then reinstall and reset profiles.

well from what i've heard our stock eris runs at around 250, so i placed my small numbers around there.

Then i over did it at 806 so i dropped it lol, it was more trial and error.
I see you're running froyo and Sik has his froyo OC'ed at 806.

Running kaosfroyo v23

-Overclocked @ 806 MHz/729 MHz clocked @ 5.59 mflops
I have read somewhere that there should be less than 200 MHz between high and low settings. There is less lag at these settings then when I had the lower setting at 5 something.

Profiles...

-screen off @480/245
-Temp > 30c @ 604/528
-battery < 27% @ 604/528

I tried to run my screen off settings lower because I figured I could save battery life but the phone would take a long time to wake up when I unlocked it.

autokiller settings also make a big difference in performance. I use the aggressive setting which needs to be reset after each reset, for some reason the settings don't stick.

Waiting for froyo v24.

Like Jpc I did try 806 and kept getting a reboot immediately.

Only have 2 profiles currently;

Battery<100% Priority 50, 768 max 729 min on demand
Screen off, priority 50, 480 max 245 min on demand.

Not a lot. It gives more than it takes, in my opinion.

The first order of business is to download and install SetCPU on to your Eris. Then read, read, read the info at http://www.pokedev.com/setcpu/ until you understand what it does and see if it will have any benefit to you. Overclocking has been around as long as CPUs have but unless you have a specific goal in mind you may be putting your hardware through extra wear and tear for nothing.
